Live In The Red
Released 13 March 2006
We recorded the DVD at Vega in Copenhagen at the last show on our 2005 December tour.
It was actually a very spur of the moment thing: a week earlier we were playing Århus and a good friend remarked, “You just have to make a DVD of this tour!!”
During the week, in between shows, we managed to round up a crew of cameramen and get a ‘director’ and producer attached, all the while contracts and technical specs went flying through the air.
Going on stage that night was a bit nerve-wracking.
We had rented in-ear monitors which helps you to stay focused because you can hear every little detail in the music. It also means that you can hear yourself and the band through the ear-piece instead of the monitors on the floor.
This has its benefits and its drawbacks. I had never played an entire show wearing in-ear monitors before and towards the end of the show those damned earplugs wouldn’t stay put! I think you can see me fiddling with them. At one point I was actually getting a bit desperate because if the plugs aren’t in your ear, you’re LOST. Without them you can’t hear much of anything other than a lot of muddled sounds coming from the room.
Another drawback is you can’t get a feel for the audience the same way you would without the plugs as they block out most of the outside. During the show it actually got me wondering, “Are you here at all?”. Then at the end of the show I removed my earplugs and I truly felt how much you WERE there. That was an AWESOME moment! Goddamn earplugs…
All in all it was an amazing night where all the cameras and contracts quickly became insignificant!
The acoustic session was recorded just before Christmas in our cozy little Århus studio.
The recording of “Magic” was actually the very first time Martin and Karoline sang this song. They had never heard it before and I only played it to them once before we hit “record”.
I actually think they did a damn good job!
